The Hudson Valley is famous for its fall foliage, best seen across rolling hills, apple orchards, and riverside mountains. Everyone loves taking it all in from a panoramic view, of course. But a great way to deepen your appreciation for this annual color show is to zero in on the trees that produce it.

Can you identify some of leaves that burst into red, yellow, and orange — along with needles of the evergreens that provide a pop of contrast? Some of these, like the Eastern hemlock and the sugar maple, face threats like fungus, or invasive species. Take a few minutes to test your existing tree knowledge, and to learn more about some favorites. Then, get out there and love, protect, and connect with nature this fall in the Hudson Valley.
