Mission of Position:
Assist in the system-wide management of Scenic Hudson’s parks and preserves and is responsible for the maintenance and repair of park facilities and buildings, with an emphasis on machinery and mechanical trades.
Qualifications:
- Five years of practical experience.
- Highly skilled in the mechanical trades, light carpentry, and metalwork using sustainable materials.
- Possess diagnostic and repair skills to safely maintain an active maintenance facility, including a vehicular fleet, pickup trucks, two-axle trailers, mowers, and light earthmoving equipment.
- Proficient in using shop equipment, chainsaws, cutting torches; material sourcing; elementary plumbing, and a variety of hand and stationary power tools.
- Comfortable working outdoors, at times under adverse weather conditions, capable of performing strenuous physical work including occasionally lifting 50+ pounds and hiking long distances.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work self-directed, creatively, and energetically.
- Good problem-solving skills. Enjoys working independently and as a team member.
- Effective written and spoken communication skills.
- Frequent travel throughout the Hudson Valley, must have a clean driver’s license and access to your own vehicle.
- Occasionally work evenings and weekends.
- As a representative and ambassador of Scenic Hudson, provide information about the organization and its parks to the public who are visiting the parks in a friendly approachable manner.
Principle Responsibilities:
- General repairs, including roadways, drainage systems, fencing, and signage at multiple park locations.
- Assist in the general operation and deployment of equipment at the maintenance facility.
- Conduct light electrical, light carpentry, plumbing, and chain saw sharpening skills.
- Keep all security systems at various parks in good repair and establish good communication with the security vendors.
- Ensure compliance with NYS DOT requirements, including knowledge of weight limits.
- Match trailers to trucks for hauling, hitches and braking systems.
- Maintain the NYS vehicle use log and schedule inspections.
- Responsible for vehicle orderliness and cleanliness.
- Occasionally perform light maintenance work on Scenic Hudson owned buildings.
- Rotate out defective and expired equipment.
- Keep track of work performed using a digitized work order system on a weekly basis.
- Assist the Senior Parks Manager with conducting the annual safety training and managing the Hazard Communications Program.
- Other duties as needed.
Compensation: Full-time position with competitive salary and benefits. Estimated Salary $47,000-$55,000.
